IFTA Third-Quarter Returns Are Due October 31; FleetCollect Builds State-by-State Mileage Reports Automatically for Owner-Operators

GPS-tracked miles and logged fuel purchases export to PDF, XLSX and CSV.

CARSON, Calif. — October 22, 2026 — Third-quarter International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) returns, covering July through September 2026, are due October 31, 2026. Because October 31 falls on a Saturday this year, returns filed on the next business day are on time. FleetCollect, a trucking-compliance platform for owner-operators and small fleets, builds the state-by-state mileage and fuel report each return needs from GPS data its app records in the background.

Every IFTA licensee reports the miles driven and the fuel bought in each member jurisdiction every quarter, then reconciles the two to find tax owed or credited. Rebuilding those miles from paper trip sheets at the end of a quarter is slow, so it's worth tracking them as you drive. The FleetCollect app uses GPS to allocate miles to each jurisdiction as a driver travels, lets drivers log fuel purchases as they go, and exports the finished quarter as PDF, XLSX and CSV.

"Nobody wants to spend a weekend rebuilding three months of miles," said Herman Armstrong, founder of FleetCollect. "If your miles were tracked as you drove, the report is already done. You just review it and file."

Carriers who tracked third-quarter miles in FleetCollect can generate the Q3 report now. Carriers starting today can track fourth-quarter miles for the return due January 31, 2027, which is a Sunday, so the next business day counts. FleetCollect's IFTA app is available on iPhone and Android, with plans starting at $19 a month.
